Device Management · Canada

Service group: Managed IT

Every company laptop and phone configured, updated and accounted for

We enrol your business devices into central management, apply consistent security settings, keep operating systems and applications patched, and give you a clear inventory, so a new laptop is ready on day one and a lost one is a manageable event rather than a crisis.

What device management involves

Device management is the work of controlling how company computers, tablets and phones are set up and kept up to date. Devices are enrolled into a management platform, usually Microsoft Intune for Microsoft 365 businesses, which then applies the settings you decide on: required passcodes, disk encryption, update schedules, approved applications, Wi-Fi and VPN profiles, and what happens when a device is lost or an employee leaves.

It complements monitoring rather than duplicating it. Monitoring tells us when something is unhealthy; device management makes devices behave consistently and stay patched in the first place. It is also broader than our dedicated Intune service, which focuses on the platform itself: device management covers the full lifecycle of each device, from purchase and enrolment through updates, reassignment and secure retirement, whatever tool is used.

Device problems this service fixes

  • Every laptop is set up differently

Each computer was configured by whoever unboxed it, so software, settings and security vary and troubleshooting takes longer.

  • Updates depend on users clicking “later”

Operating system and browser updates are postponed for months, leaving known vulnerabilities open on machines that hold client data.

  • Lost devices with no response plan

A laptop left in a taxi or a phone stolen from a job site may not be encrypted, and there is no way to lock or wipe it.

  • No reliable inventory

Nobody can say how many devices the company owns, who has them, or which ones are out of warranty.

Device management capabilities

  • Zero-touch enrolment

New Windows devices set up with Windows Autopilot and Apple devices with Apple Business Manager, so they configure themselves when the user signs in.

  • Configuration and compliance policies

Passcodes, encryption, firewall, screen lock and OS version requirements applied centrally, with non-compliant devices flagged or blocked from company data.

  • Patch management

Operating system and common application updates deployed in rings, with deadlines that keep devices current without disrupting work.

  • Application deployment

Standard business applications installed and updated automatically, and unapproved software identified.

  • Lost and departing devices

Remote lock, wipe and retirement actions, plus secure reassignment of devices when staff change roles or leave.

  • Inventory and lifecycle records

A current record of devices, assigned users, warranty status and age to support replacement planning.

Device management scope

Your proposal lists covered devices and policies. This is the usual baseline.

Typically included

  • Enrolment of covered company devices into the management platform
  • Baseline configuration and compliance policies agreed with you
  • Operating system and common application patching on covered devices
  • Disk encryption with recovery keys stored securely
  • Standard application deployment and updates
  • Remote lock, wipe and retirement of covered devices on request
  • Device inventory and warranty tracking

Requires separate scope or quotation

  • Purchasing devices, accessories or licences
  • Hardware repair and warranty claims beyond coordination
  • Full device control of personal phones, which we protect at the app level instead
  • Re-imaging or migrating large fleets as a one-time project
  • Packaging complex or legacy line-of-business applications

Device platforms and tools

We usually recommend Microsoft’s tools; alternatives are considered where they fit better.

  • Microsoft Intune for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android management
  • Windows Autopilot for zero-touch Windows deployment
  • Apple Business Manager for automated Apple device enrolment
  • Intune app protection policies for personal phones
  • BitLocker and FileVault disk encryption
  • Windows Update for Business and third-party application patching
  • Microsoft Entra ID join and conditional access integration

Who needs managed devices

  • Mobile and hybrid teams

Organizations whose laptops and phones spend much of their time outside the office network.

  • Businesses handling sensitive client data

Accounting, legal, healthcare and professional services firms that need encryption and lost-device response on every device.

  • Growing teams with frequent hires

Companies onboarding new staff regularly that want each new device ready on the first day.

Benefits of managed devices

  • Consistent, documented setup on every company device
  • Updates applied on a schedule rather than when users remember
  • Lost or stolen devices can be locked or wiped
  • Company data is protected on personal phones without controlling the whole phone
  • New starters receive working devices faster
  • An accurate inventory supports budgeting and replacement planning

How we bring devices under management

  1. Device inventory

We list current devices, users, operating systems and how each one is currently set up.

  2. Policy design

We agree baseline policies, update rings, required apps and your rules for personal devices.

  3. Pilot

A small group of devices is enrolled first to confirm policies work with your applications and workflows.

  4. Rollout

Remaining devices are enrolled in planned batches, with staff told what to expect and how to get help.

  5. Ongoing management

Patching, compliance review, app updates and lifecycle actions continue, with periodic reports on device status.

Ways to buy

Device management is usually part of a recurring plan. Pricing is confirmed in a written quotation.

  • Managed IT Support subscription

Per-user support plans that include patching and device administration for covered devices.

  • Managed Endpoint Security

Per-device endpoint protection that pairs with device management for a complete device baseline.

  • Endpoint Security Assessment

A fixed-scope review of device protection and settings before you commit to a managed plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need Microsoft Intune?

Many Microsoft 365 business plans already include Intune, which makes it the usual choice. We confirm your licensing during discovery and recommend the right fit.

Can you manage employees’ personal phones?

We protect company data on personal phones with app protection policies, such as requiring a PIN for Outlook and Teams and wiping only company data when someone leaves, without managing the whole phone.

How is this different from monitoring?

Monitoring watches device and system health and raises alerts. Device management configures, patches and controls devices. They are scoped separately and often bought together.

Will updates interrupt my staff?

Updates are deployed in rings with deadlines and restart windows agreed with you, so most updates install with little disruption.

How is device management priced?

Per device or per user within a support plan. The calculator shows proposed figures and your written quotation confirms the final price.
