When a consultation day makes sense
Some IT questions do not need a month-long project or an ongoing contract; they need an experienced person in the room for a day. An owner deciding whether to replace an ageing server or move everything to Microsoft 365, a manager comparing three managed IT proposals, or an operations lead planning an office move can often get to a confident decision with focused expert time.
The One-Day IT Consultation is built for those moments. We agree the topic in advance, review any documents you send, and spend the day working through options with you and your team. You receive a written summary afterwards, so the advice survives beyond the conversation and can be shared with partners or your board.
What the day includes
Preparation
A pre-consultation questionnaire and review of documents you provide, such as quotes, diagrams or invoices.
The consulting day
Up to about seven hours of working sessions, interviews or system walk-throughs, scheduled around your team.
Written summary
A concise document covering what was discussed, the options considered, our recommendation and next steps.
Follow-up call
A 30-minute call within two weeks to answer questions that arise once you have read the summary.
Scope of the consultation
Suitable topics
- Choosing or changing an IT provider, including comparing proposals
- Planning an office move, new location or remote-work setup
- Microsoft 365 plan selection and licensing questions
- Prioritizing IT spending for the next budget year
- Reviewing a vendor proposal or project plan before you sign
- Light demonstration of configuration options during the session
Not included
- Implementation work, such as configuring systems after the session
- Formal assessments with severity-rated findings (see the assessments in the store)
- Legal, tax or regulatory advice
- Travel time and expenses outside confirmed service areas
- Enterprise cloud architecture, which we refer to CloudArchitects.expert
Before the day
- Agree one primary topic and the outcome you want from the day
- Return the pre-consultation questionnaire at least three business days in advance
- Share relevant documents, such as current invoices, proposals or diagrams
- Confirm who will attend and reserve their time
- For on-site days, a meeting room and access to the equipment being discussed
Is this right for you?
Good fit
A single, well-defined question that can be answered with expert discussion and a review of existing information.
Better as an assessment
If you need a documented review of your systems with findings and evidence, choose an assessment instead.
Better as an architecture review
If the question spans your whole environment and needs a target design, the One-Month IT Architecture and Review Package is more suitable.
Pricing basis and booking
The proposed fee is a fixed CAD 1,200 for one consulting day before tax, pending business approval and confirmed in a written quotation. On-site days outside a confirmed service area may carry travel costs, which are stated before you book.
You choose a date and confirm the topic, then receive an invoice under the approved terms. If a second day is needed, it is booked as a separate consultation. If the day leads to an assessment or project, we will tell you whether any part of the summary can be reused to reduce later effort.
How booking works
Request a date
Choose a preferred date and describe your topic.
Confirm topic and invoice
We confirm the topic, attendees and format, and issue the invoice.
Prepare
You return the questionnaire and documents; we review them before the day.
Consult and summarize
We hold the sessions, send the written summary and schedule the follow-up call.
Terms
Price and terms are drafts pending business and legal approval and are confirmed before you book. Rescheduling and cancellation rules will be stated in the approved terms. Recommendations are professional advice based on information available on the day. Taxes are calculated on the invoice.
Frequently asked questions
Can the day be split into two half-days?
Often yes, if the topic allows. Ask when you request a date and we will confirm whether a split works.
Will you configure systems during the day?
We may demonstrate settings to explain options, but implementation work is outside the consultation and quoted separately.
Is this a sales meeting for managed IT?
No. The day is focused on your question. If managed IT would help, we will say so in the summary, but the advice stands on its own.
How quickly can we book?
Availability varies. Dates are confirmed after you request a booking and agree the topic.
Bring your IT question and leave with a plan
